CINEMA SOLORIENS

experimental films by James Harrar + live music

James Harrar: sax
Roro: drums

Bastian Duncker: alto sax

Jan-Bas Bollen: Bass, electronics, visuals

ARTIST INFO:

Cinema Soloriens is a multi-media performance consisting of James Harrar’s experimental and highly personal film and video images with a live musical rendering of soundtracks for each film. The musical concepts are created, directed and performed by Harrar (tenor sax, clarinet, flute, bulbul tarang, reeds, voice & effects) with Roro (rogier smal). When combined, the Artists endeavor to reveal deeper levels of interpretation within Harrar’s visceral film poems. This presentation also celebrates the early beginnings of cinema, providing live music to support and elevate the silent movie experience.

Roro (Rogier Smal) is a drummer who experiments with free percussion sounds. Besides playing in improv group "DAGORA" he plays with different musicians and solo. Roro tries to find the energy of space and participants while remaining open to the environment and acoustics. lately roro has been lucky enough to have been making sonic waves of liberty with gems like: Anne la Berge, Peter Quistgard, James Harrar, Yedo Gibson, Marshall Allen, Dagora, Ti Femme, Eugene Chadbourne, Peter Zincken, Frankie Vis, Peter van Bergen, City Hands, Raoul van der Weide, Sunburned hand of the man, Giovanni Barcella, Eric Thielemans, Mik Quantius, Alfredo Genovesi, Arvind Ganga, and many more.....

Bastian Duncker (*89 in Kiel/Germany) is a saxophonist whose work draws inspiration from the regularities and incalculabilities of nature. Stimulated by a broad range of sonic traditions, he improvises and writes for a number of different constellations. Bastian lives in Berlin, where he has also studied at the Jazz-Institute with Peter Weniger and Greg Cohen. Among others, he played with Gunter Hampel, Hayden Chisholm, John Hollenbeck and Claudio Puntin.
